TWISTED BOND by EMMA HART REVIEW

“Trust me, I can make a fuck punishment as well as pleasurable.”
Drake

Twisted BOND The Holly Woods Files #1
                                       EMMA HART

Publication date: 11th June 2015
Format/Source:  e-book/ Bought

Synopsis

Photograph cheating spouses. Hand over the evidence. Cash my check.
That was my plan when I returned home to Holly Woods, Texas, and became a private investigator.

Finding the dead body in my dumpster? Yeah… Given the choice, I think I would have opted out of that little discovery, especially since all three of my brothers are cops. And my Italian grandmother is sure the reason I’m single is because of my job.

Of course, my connection to the victim is entirely coincidental. Until I’m hired by her husband to investigate her murder and shoved bang-smack into the path of Detective Drake Nash.

My nemesis, a persistent pain in my ass, and one hell of a sexy son of a bitch.

Shame he still holds a grudge from that time I shot him in the foot twelve years ago, or we could have something. In another life.

So now all I have to do is avoid my nonna’s blind dates, try not to blackmail my brothers into giving me confidential police files, and absolutely do not point my gun at Drake Nash. Or kiss him. Or jump his bones.

All while I hunt down the killer.

Sounds totally simple—until a second body proves that sometimes things that start as coincidences don’t always end up that way…

My thoughts

I’ve read quite a few of Emma Hart’s books now and this one is just as great as the others.  Twisted Bond heads in another direction which I found fascinating.  There is still the sexual tension, the heat between the two characters, but in this one the focus was on the Bond PI business, on solving the crime, getting to the bottom of it, which I can imagine was fun to plot out!

Whilst reading this book I couldn’t shake the image of a TV show I love, this book is very much like Scandal! Even though Scandal involves the President, corruption, murders and things, I just thought the set up was the same.  Noelle is Olivia, Marshall is Huck, Dean and Mike could be the other players…Drake is Jake lol. It just all fits, not sure who the President is… LOL.

I love the bounce between Noelle and Drake, the banter between the two of them was so funny, they left no stone unturned, they really don’t care how they speak to the other and I think that is refreshing.  The bounce between the two was definitely there.  There is a complete LOVE/HATE thing between them.

“Drake is kind dreamy.  And then, of course, he opens his mouth and ruins the whole thing.”

I also love the reference to cupcakes in every chapter, it makes me want to eat like a pig.  Nothing new there!  As well as the sexual tension, there is some serious crime solving to be done.  Noelle must work with Drake (So hard to sit in a car with him! Not) to figure out who the killer is, as well as coming under danger herself.  But then, ‘dreamy Drake’ is there as a fail-safe, just in case! Twisted Bond is definitely twisted, the ‘who’s done it’ keeps you guessing until the very end! Great start to a new series!
